What to wear for your portrait session

I always say wear first and foremost what you are most comfortable in! If you wear something where the shoulder strap keeps falling down, or just doesn’t quite fit right, it’s best to find another article of clothing that feels better for you.

Secondly, if you are with others it’s nice to keep a similar color palette. If you go with shades of browns and tans that works nicely. Or if you want to do something less neutral and go more colorful I’ve seen some awesome shades of purple within family photos. I don’t advise my clients to just do beige or always go matchy matchy. I think if you are drawn to a certain color you think looks best on you, then go with your instincts! I love earth tones myself and I usually stick to those for my own personal headshots/portriats when I have them taken of me. I also notice I gravitate towards gray which is interesting! I also love teal blue!

I typically recommend avoiding distracting elements like big logos, or super complex patterns. I also think a very white shirt/dress/top and an off-white shirt/dress/top clash when paired together.

Solids are a good go-to for sure! Our eyes gravitate towards patterns so if you wear a solid, the eye is more keen on looking at the faces in a photo as opposed to the outfit first.

I’m happy to assist you with any styling ideas for your session- just ask :)
